This is an early test of an interactive video effect. Each pixel in the big image is the top part of a bike salute. I am working on a way tou use real photos instead the illustration.
The music was added to the video to make it jolly and more fun to watch.

The next series of bikes salutes will have a theme that is not geographical. The next series is going to be the video series. Short videos of people lifting their bikes over their head. I am trying to procure a large room where I can shoot this. contact me if you have any ideas.

this post is a little late but never than not at all. I had lots of fun cycling in the countryside and the event was well organized. The photos from the Hilly hundred constitute the Indiana series.

This weekend I’ll be riding the Hilly Hundred in Southern Indiana and make a new series of bike salutes over there. The plan afterward is to do several series of bike salute in a photo studio with several themes. I have so many ideas it is hard to choose the right one.

One of reasons why I continued pass the 1000 photos mark to 1024 was so I can create a large image with all of them tiled together.

The Berlin series

Berlin was a bliss and I feel that my visit was way too short. I went on a bike tour on one day and rented a bike the next day. I got to see Knut, Nefertiti,a floating swimming pool and Lola’s house. For bike salutes I went to Keirin cafe because I read that it is a bike messengers hangout. Over there I talked with locals and had their photos taken. They were all friendly and the Barista even happened to wear a Chicago cubs cap. When I asked them how come hardly no one was wearing a helmet the answers ranged between “Because we are fashionistas” to “Because we are not American”.

Berlin Info

I’ll be in Berlin from the 25th to the 27th of August. I never been there before and I don’t speak German. So far the plan for the first day (august 25th) is to take photos by the fountain with the neon bikes in Potsdamer Platz between 19:00 and 20:00. I don’t know if it is a good place, I just found it on flickr. show up and pose, I’ll be the guy with an orange shirt, a black baseball hat and a camera.

I’ll post more information about the other two days as I hopefully learn more about the bast places and times to take photos.

UPDATE
No one showed up and the emails I got were after I already left Berlin. Next time I should ask more in advance.

by Berlin I don’t mean the band from the late 80’s who sang the theme song in Top Gun, but the city in Germany. I’ll be there for a couple of days in late august and I plan to take some photos of bike salutes over there. Any leads to bike events will be appreciated.
